In 1966, a young family from the Dominican Republic moved to Ohio and put down roots. The parents, Drs. Pablo and Maria Pons never forgot the people of the island nation they left. Once established in their lives and careers their minds turned to giving back to the people of the DR.

Since 1984, the medical mission group has gathered like-minded healthcare professionals to aid those in need around the island nation. The mission trip is now led by the Pons' daughter, Lilia Pons Palmer, who spends a good part of every year organizing, fund raising, and handling all of the details necessary to make our annual  medical mission trip a success.  Each fall our group of volunteers from all over the United States travel to the DR and spend a week providing medical, surgical, ophthalmic, dental, and prosthetic care to all who need it, no questions asked.  Each member of the group pays their own way and gathers supplies between each trip.

Funding a medical mission trip is very expensive.  Each year, large amounts of supplies are needed for surgery and other areas of the medical mission.  Medications, both prescription and over the counter, are required for the pharmacy.  These medications, which years ago were typically donated by hospitals, now need to be purchased, which is a significant expense for the mission group.  Also, transporting our volunteers round trip between the airport in Santo Domingo and our site in the Samana Peninsula and between the hospital and our lodging every day is costly. We need a bus and it needs gas and a driver.

The Samana Peninsula area is economically depressed. It is not uncommon for the men, women, and children of this area to travel many miles to receive any sort of aid. We will be helping families gain medical and surgical care and we always bring school supplies, athletic equipment and comfort items for the community's children.

Any funds raised will be directly donated to the Pons Dominican Republic Medical Mission and any donation will make an impact. Thank you in advance for your contribution to this cause that means so much to us.

Please donate whatever is feasible for you and share, share, share on every social platform!
